Shakespeare's life
William Shakespeare was a poet, playwright and sometimes even a player (actor). According to many scholars, Shakespeare was born on April 23rd1564 at Stratford upon Avon in England. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar school but left at the age of 15 for work. He didn’t attend university but instead would have read as many books he could have in his spare time. At 18, he married his pregnant girlfriend Anne Hathaway (8 years older than Shakespeare) and within 2 years had three children.
In order to provide for his family, Shakespeare was bound for London in the late 1580’s where he made his mark on the theatre world. Writing 37 plays and 154 Sonnets Shakespeare dominated the both the literature and the theatre worlds. After retiring, he moved back to Stratford where he lived with his wife in a large home called “New Place” until his death in 1616 on his birthday.
